For the month of June 2012, we plan to travel to Liberia to aid in recording the efforts of the churches and schools of Liberia in the rebuilding of their country, capturing through words and pictures the role of the Liberian people.

Since the end of the Liberia’s second civil war in 2003, churches have provided a primary means to reestablish schools to educate young leaders and rebuild their broken country. At present, over 142 United Methodist schools alone are registered in Liberia. However, there is no organized record or history, photographic or otherwise, of the role of the church in this recovery effort.

James will be photographing the work and daily life of the people involved in these ministries as a way of exploring their efforts and stories visually, while Mandy will be collecting information from a journalistic standpoint.
